HISTORY

Since 1973, The (Volvo) Ocean Race has provided the ultimate test of a team and a human adventure like no other. Over four decades it has kept an almost mythical hold over some of the greatest sailors and been a proving ground for the legends of our sport.

THE BOATS: VO65 & IMOCA 60

Two classes will compete in the next edition of the race with the continuance of the high-tech, foiling IMOCA 60 foot class adding a design and technical element, following the 2023 edition. The one-design VO65 fleet will race on its fourth lap of the planet in 2027 with a continued emphasis on competition, youth and crew diversity.

OceansLab aims to race aboard an IMOCA 60 following the 2024 around-the-world Vendee Globe solo race. At 60 feet the monohulls are among the fastest modern racing boats. To maximise on speed the boats are built using light, but strong composite materials ensuring they can withstand the worst conditions on the open seas.
